Each 16 week semester begins with the basics of drawing as we practice our skills to gain confidence in shading, perspectives, proportions, composition, line and shapes, realism and abstract.
We continue with color theory, art history and painting techniques in both watercolor and acrylics. We practice using a variety of techniques and styles, different materials and how to care for them. Other materials may include sculpture, textiles or collage.
Each artist is encouraged to explore their unique expression. We create a safe environment that fosters curiosity, learning how to talk about art and encourage each other. We appreciate that perfection is not the goal, but striving to take each piece as far as our current abilities will allow. Understanding that art is a life long love that has value beyond fun, beauty and healing.
Each student will participate in the art show at the end of the semester.
During the 16 week semester, we will focus on the core principles of painting. Students will discover how to start a painting, how to find references from photographs, how to transfer images onto canvas, and how to choose materials and tools effectively.
Throughout the class, students will develop underpaintings, use glazes, and learn other techniques to achieve their own desired outcome. With live demonstrations, students are able to learn side-by-side with the teacher.
Each student will participate in the art show at the end of the semester.
Creating art side by side, we determine both the references, materials and process to achieve the desired goals of the student. We use high quality materials and practice various techniques and styles. Each project is an opportunity to practice composition, color, value, depth, movement and to develop your artistic skills. We work step by step and build layer by layer to take each piece as far as possible. Each student is encouraged to participate in the art shows.
